Nooooooooo. The end of the year marks the final days of the Volkswagen camper van, known as the Kombi, or to many the "Hippie Van". Introduced 62 years ago, Volkswagen Hippie Vans slowly transported millions of heads on road trips around the world, but let's face it - mostly to inland Mexico where the van overheated and something in the engine melted and you got stuck there for three weeks in some tiny village and it was the best trip of your life.
Boooooooo. Volkswagen stops producing the Kombi camper van at its only plant in Brazil on Dec. 31. An event was held in São Bernardo do Campo celebrating the last days of the minibus after 62 years, the Guardian reports. Stupid new safety regulations like air bags and anti-lock brakes are ending the Kombi's run, Volkswagen said. The Volkswagen Type 2 was Volkswagen's second car model after the Type 1 (Beetle). End of an era, man.
