Apparently the South has not come a long way, baby. By using government data on cigarette smoking and quit rates, Health.com recently identified the top 10 states whose citizens are most likely to smoke themselves to death.

All 10 states are peppered throughout the Southern US, and Weedist points out that none of the states have any sort of legal cannabis. It's due time that these states offer a healthier alternative for their citizens to smoke on.

The Top 10 states addicted to cigarettes are as follows in alphabetical order:

  1. Alabama
  2. Arkansas
  3. Kentucky
  4. Louisiana
  5. Mississippi
  6. Missouri
  7. Oklahoma
  8. South Carolina
  9. Tennessee
  10. West Virginia

All 10 states, however, do have stellar collegiate sports programs. Just thought we'd throw that out there.
